  • ½ tsp salt
  • ⅔ cup (160 ml) warm milk
  • ¼ cup (60 ml) warm water
  • 2 large eggs
  • ¼ cup (60 g) unsalted butter, softened
  • 120 g (4 oz) semi-sweet chocolate or chocolate chips
  • ¼ cup (60 ml) heavy cream (optional)
  • Neutral oil (for frying)
  • ½ cup granulated sugar or powdered sugar, for coating

Instructions

  1. Activate the yeast by dissolving it in warm water with a pinch of sugar; let it sit until foamy.
  2. In a large bowl, mix flour, sugar, and salt. Add the yeast mixture, warm milk, eggs, and softened butter. Knead until smooth (8–10 minutes).
  3. Let the dough rise in a greased bowl for 1–1.5 hours until doubled in size.
  4. Roll out the dough to ½-inch thickness and cut into rounds; let them rise again for 30–45 minutes.
  5. Melt chocolate with heavy cream (if using) until smooth; transfer to a piping bag.
  6. Heat oil to 350°F (175°C) and fry donuts until golden brown on both sides; roll in sugar while warm.
